Our new Pastor will be preaching this Sunday, September 5th for the first time as Pastor of the church. Why not join us at 10AM as we meet around Gods Word the Bible and we find out about His Son Jesus. We hope to see you then.
Real service - Genuine faith in Christ will naturally lead to acts of love and service. This love and care will, we trust, be a hallmark of our church family as we share our lives together. We aim also to be a blessing to the wider community of Carlisle. We will pray for the city and demonstrate Christ’s love by serving those in need.
Real hope – In a society where many are losing hope for the future, we have the answer – Jesus Christ. So in all we do we will point people to Christ. Jesus is the hope for those without hope. He is the answer to their most pressing need for he offers forgiveness of sin. Only Christ can rescue from the consequences of sin and give certain hope in the face of death. Only Christ can give people a fresh start.
Real answers - In an age of doubt and confusion we want to hold out to people the truth that is found in Christ and His Word. From the start, a clear commitment to the systematic expository preaching of scripture will be central to the life of the church.
Real community – In an age of loneliness and broken relationships we will hold out to people the offer of a restored relationship with God and an opportunity to be part of God’s family, the church. We aim to build a real community with real relationships.
Real transformation - The power of the gospel to transform lives is incredible. We look forward to being part of what God is doing transforming people. We look forward to seeing those who are dead in sin made alive in Christ and becoming more and more like Jesus.
Are you moving to Carlisle in 2010? – Our new Pastor, Peter Walkingshaw writes…
“As Lucy and the family and I are packing up to move at the moment, moving to Carlisle is very much on our minds. You may also be moving to Carlisle, or close by, this summer or know someone who is.
If you are looking for a new church why not come along and meet with us at Carlisle Baptist Church. Of course church is not something you go to, it’s a community to be part of centred around Jesus Christ and His mission. What a great opportunity to start together as part of this community.”
Peter starts his ministry at Carlisle Baptist Church from the start of September 2010. The church family meet together at 10am on a Sunday morning. If you would like directions to the church building you will find them here http://carlislebaptistchurch.org.uk/category/find-us/
According to figures from the Office for National Statistics in 1901 the population of England was just over 30 million people. Skip ahead a hundred years to 2001 and it had grown to almost 50 million, that is a hugh growth in just 100 years, 20 million extra people in England alone.
You do not need to be a genius to work out that at town or city with 30 churches in 1901 we would need 50 churches in 2001 just to stay at the same level of gospel witness. Has this happened? Sadly no it has not and we see all around us the impact of this in our society.
Like most places Carlisle continues to need more churches not less, it needs more Christians not less. We need these things not as an end in themselves but because of the desperate need for the great ‘gospel’ or good news about Jesus Christ to be more widely known once again in our land and our towns and cities. We need the power of this gospel at work to transform lives as much now as we ever have. Do join us in praying for gospel growth in our nation.
This is a useful little video presentation of the Gospel or the Good News about Jesus. Thanks to the people over at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary who have put it together.
